Becoming part of the Sheridan Outlet doesn’t stop when you purchase a product — it’s about enjoying it for years to come, too. Which also includes knowing how best to take care of it.
Dedicated to everyday luxury, we’ve worked hard to understand how your product will perform, every day. That’s why we’ve developed care instructions to help extend the longevity of your product — you deserve it.
For easy care, Sheridan Outlet's bed linen can be machine washed and tumble dried. Sheets and pillowcases feel best when laundered every week; it's recommended not to leave them unwashed for more than two weeks. To reduce wear, alternate your sheets with a fresh set between washes.
Always check the care label for specific care instructions. In general, wash bed linen separately from towels and clothing using a warm gentle wash cycle at 40 degrees. Turn pillowcases inside out. Sheets launder better when they're not overcrowded; load the machine so your items have plenty of room.
Sheridan Outlet towels and bathrobes have been engineered to a high quality and can be washed and tumble dried. With the correct care, you can keep them feeling soft and fluffy for longer.
Towels and bathrobes should be washed frequently using a warm gentle wash cycle at 40 degrees. Be careful not to overload, and separate lights from dark colours. To protect terry fibres and for superior colour retention, use a gentle eucalyptus-based washing detergent.
Always follow the care instructions on your items label. Some materials allow for machine washing, others require dry cleaning. Regardless of the suggested method, wash at least once a year.
In between washes, we recommend air drying your quilt in direct sunlight to release any moisture.
As with other bed accessories, always follow the care instructions on the label. This will advise the method of washing, and provide instructions for their best wash.
Generally, it is preferred to wash pillows in warm water as opposed to cold, to prevent allergen buildup. Dry pillows in direct sunlight and allow to air; the sun acts as a natural antibacterial agent and helps keep pillows hygienic and fresh.
We recommend using a pillow protector to prolong the life of your pillow; it assists with hygiene, freshness and keeping them stain free.
We recommend gentle wash at 40 degrees for cotton. For drying, use a warm tumble dry setting. To protect the fibres and for superior colour retention, use mild detergents — for example, ones with a eucalyptus base.
Only for whites should you use a detergent containing optical brightening agents (OBA's). For colours, we recommend oxygen bleach, often referred to as colour-safe bleach.
To keep your sleep hygienic and fresh, wash your linen weekly using a warm gentle wash cycle at 40 degrees. To protect and prolong the life of your linen products, use a gentle eucalyptus-based washing detergent. Linen softens with washing.
TENCEL™ Lyocell Fibres
When it comes to products crafted with TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres, we recommend washing the item separately before first use, inside out, using a warm machine wash at 40 degrees.
Use a mild detergent and wait until it is fully diluted in the water before putting the item in the washing machine. Undiluted detergents can cause staining on the fabric.
Always check the care label for specific instructions. If your item is machine washable, use a wool cycle with wool detergent to protect and prolong its life — when drying, do not tumble dry. Line dry is preferred.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What detergent should I use?
Use a mild detergent and wait until it is fully diluted in the water before putting products in the washing machine. Undiluted detergents can cause staining. Read the amount recommended on the laundry liquid bottle or box to determine how much to use.
If your product contains colour, Sheridan Outlet recommends using a detergent free from Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs). This is a very common ingredient in most detergents, but can weaken and discolour certain fabric fibres. OBAs should only be used for white items. Otherwise, we recommend using a eucalyptus based detergent — such as wool wash — which you can find in your local supermarket.
How do I remove stains?
We recommend cleaning stains as quickly as possible after they appear, although we understand circumstances may, at times, prevent this. Avoid strenuously scrubbing the stain, rather gentle soak, wash or blot it out. Repeat this process until optimum results are obtained. Keep in mind it’s easier to remove stains from fibres with a natural origin, as opposed to synthetic fabrics. Once a stain is truly set, it is often difficult to remove.
When a fabric comes in contact with bleach or benzoyl peroxide it will permanently stain or discolour the fabric. If the discolouration is a green hue, it’s due to bleach; if orange, it’s due to peroxide exposure.
These ingredients are known to be in certain skin and acne treatments, therefore we recommend you be aware of the potential staining and take necessary precautions to avoid permanently damaging your products.
What water temperature is best?
Sheridan Outlet recommends your items be laundered using a warm gentle machine wash at 40 degrees. The warm water temperature setting is more effective at removing dirt and natural body oils — and, more importantly, in removing chemical residue of the detergents from the fabric. Detergent residue will deteriorate the fabric fibres if they are not rinsed out properly.
The gentle wash cycle protects the fibres used in our product construction. With the slow cycle, the products are left in the washing machine for a longer period, ensuring dirt and body oils are removed completely and all detergent is rinsed out of the fabric properly.
By not overloading the washing machine, avoiding excess heat, detergent and any additives, and choosing gentle cycles and thorough rinses, you will protect your item from stress and damaging surface residue.
Should I put items in the dryer?
Although air drying is best for the longevity of items, it can at times leave the fabric feeling a bit stiff to the touch. If you plan to air dry, put your item in the dryer for 10-12 minutes on medium heat before hanging — this helps re-orient the fibres after washing, leaving a soft finish on the fabric’s surface.
When using the dryer, avoid overloading the machine. Drying items in smaller loads allows for even drying. Tumble dry for no longer than 20 minutes on the low or medium heat setting. Repeat this process as needed. Remember to be cautious as to not over dry your items — doing so will weaken their fibres, potentially causing them to deteriorate.
Remove the items from the dryer while they are still slightly damp. Hang them over a railing or shower curtain rod to finish air-drying. Gravity will help eliminate wrinkles. A ceiling fan on a gentle setting is also great for the final stage of drying.
Please always ensure your item is completely dry before storing in a well ventilated area, to prevent any dampness, mildew or mould.
